What Is Fireplace Finishing?
Fireplace finishing refers to the non structural work completed around a fireplace unit after installation or during an upgrade. This includes the visible surfaces and architectural details that frame the fireplace and integrate it into your home.
Fireplace finishing commonly includes surrounds and facing, mantle installation, tile, stone, brick, or rock finishes, and hearth related work where required.
This type of work is often done for new zero clearance fireplaces, gas or propane fireplaces, visual upgrades to existing fireplaces, or as part of a home renovation.
Fireplace Finishing Services
Woodsmoke provides fireplace finishing only where it aligns with safe installation practices and manufacturer specifications.
Surrounds and Facing
Installation of tile, stone, brick, or rock surrounds that are proportioned correctly for the fireplace model and installed to meet clearance requirements.
Mantle Installation
Installation of wood or non combustible mantles with proper height and depth based on the appliance manufacturer’s specifications.
Hearth Related Work
The hearth is the horizontal surface in front of the fireplace opening. Where required, hearth protection is installed or modified to meet safety standards for size, materials, and clearances.
What We Do Not Do
To avoid confusion and set clear expectations, Woodsmoke does not rebuild masonry fireplaces, does not modify fireboxes or structural components, and does not perform decorative work that compromises required safety clearances.
The focus is finishing work around properly installed fireplaces, not full fireplace reconstruction.
Why Experience Matters in Fireplace Finishing
Fireplace finishing is not just cosmetic. Clearances, materials, and dimensions are governed by manufacturer manuals, appliance type, chimney and venting configuration, and heat exposure zones.
Improper finishing can create safety hazards, cause insurance issues, or fail inspections. Bernie’s extensive installation experience ensures your finished fireplace looks right and complies with safety requirements.
Fireplace Finishing for New and Existing Fireplaces
Fireplace finishing is commonly completed after installing a zero clearance fireplace, when upgrading or modernizing an existing fireplace, as part of a renovation project, or when correcting outdated or improperly installed finishes.
When finishing work is coordinated with installation or inspection services, the entire system works together safely and efficiently.
