WETT Inspections for Fireplaces

If you own a wood stove, fireplace insert, or chimney system, a WETT inspection is required for insurance, home sales, or government rebate programs. At Woodsmoke Fireplace & Stove, Bernie provides professional WETT-certified inspections backed by over 21 years of experience and more than 2,000 completed installations across Vancouver Island.

Our inspections are thorough, accurate, and fully compliant with insurance company and building inspector requirements — so you get documentation you can rely on.

What Is a WETT Inspection?

WETT (Wood Energy Technical Training) certification is the industry standard for wood-burning appliance safety in Canada. A WETT inspection verifies that your stove, fireplace, and chimney system meet current safety standards and manufacturer clearance requirements.

A valid WETT certificate is commonly required for:

  • Home insurance policies and renewals

  • Buying or selling a home

  • Changing insurance providers

  • BC heat pump rebate programs

  • Peace of mind that your system is safe and compliant

Our inspections are thorough, accurate, and fully compliant with insurance company and building inspector requirements — so you get documentation you can rely on.

What’s Included in Our WETT Inspection?

During a WETT inspection, Bernie carefully checks all critical safety components, including:

  • Condition of the wood stove or fireplace insert

  • Manufacturer certification / safety label

  • Clearances to combustibles for:

    • The appliance

    • Stove pipe

    • Chimney system

  • Hearth size and protection

  • Chimney and venting configuration

  • Overall system compliance with current standards

If your system passes, you receive official WETT documentation accepted by insurance companies and inspectors.

If issues are found, you’ll get clear, honest guidance on what needs to be corrected — no guesswork, no upselling.

Why Choose Woodsmoke for WETT Certification?

Not all inspectors have real-world installation experience. Bernie does.

  • 21+ years on Vancouver Island

  • 2,000+ installations completed

  • WETT Certified

  • Regency Key Dealer

  • Extensive experience with complex and non-standard installations

That experience matters. Bernie has seen virtually every configuration imaginable and understands how systems are supposed to work — not just how to fill out a form.

Improper inspections can miss serious safety issues or create insurance problems later. A proper WETT inspection protects your home, your family, and your coverage.

Important Note About DIY Installations

Woodsmoke does not promote DIY stove installations for certification purposes. Insurance companies may deny coverage for improperly installed systems, even if they appear functional.

If you’re unsure whether your existing system will pass, we’re happy to discuss your situation honestly and explain your options.
